Found-37-Years-After-Being-Stolen 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 4-Speed

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was purchased new by Alan Poster in New York City in 1968, but it was stolen months after purchase in January 1969 and was not located by authorities until December 2005. The car was set to be exported abroad, but a Customs VIN check turned up the 1969 stolen vehicle report, and authorities tracked down Mr. Poster in California and reunited him with the car the following month. The reunion was covered by multiple media outlets, including Road & Track. A subsequent refurbishment involved returning the car to its factory colors and the installation of a replacement 327ci V8 and four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes a Positraction limited-slip differential, a black convertible soft top, retractable headlights, 15″ Rally wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, an AM/FM radio, and power windows, and a Holley carburetor was fitted in preparation for the sale. This C3 convertible is now offered by the seller on behalf of Mr. Poster with a copy of the initial stolen vehicle complaint as well as NYPD, CHP, and Department of Homeland Security press releases, New York Times, New York PostAssociated Press, and additional newspaper and magazine articles, Good Morning America and The Early Show correspondence, and a clean California title.

The car was refinished in silver at some point before its 2005 recovery, but it was repainted in its original color, Le Mans Blue (414), during the 2006 refurbishment. Exterior features include a black convertible soft top, retractable headlights, chrome bumpers, side vents, and dual exhaust outlets. The windshield wiper motor, arms, and blades were replaced in preparation for the sale, but the system wiring is incomplete. An additional wiper motor is included in the sale.
